Kaia MoseleyAssistant Program Director |
Kaia Moseley—Assistant Program Director: Originally from Bethlehem, PA, Kaia came to Virginia because of the unique opportunities to work in history and education. After graduating from the College of William and Mary with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History, Kaia worked at both Colonial Williamsburg and Jamestown Settlement, interpreting and developing education and training materials. While working as a historical interpreter and assistant supervisor on the Susan Constant, Godspeed, and Discovery at Jamestown, Kaia developed a deep interest in maritime history and a love of sailing. In order to improve her nautical skills, Kaia went to work as the onboard Education Coordinator on the schooner Sultana. Spending more time sailing only increased her desire to work on boats, so she returned to Jamestown as a marine mechanic for the ships. In this position, she worked year round to maintain four wooden ships, worked with volunteers and staff to train them in the arts of sailing square-rigged vessels, and served as an underway mast-captain when the ships sailed to various ports. She sailed as boatswain on the maiden voyage of the new Godspeed, commissioned in 2006, and for all the Jamestown 400th anniversary events. She comes to Schooner Virginia with a background in history, education, and program development, and with a strong belief in the value of sail training for youth and adults. She is married to Captain Hank Moseley, and resides in Yorktown, VA.
